Dear Michael & Rachael, Jesus taught that someday "all those in the memorial tombs" will be resurrected. (John 5:28) Jehovah is the Creator of all life. Should it be hard to believe that he can re-create life? Of course, much would depend on Jehovah's memory. Can he remember our dead loved ones? Countless trillions of stars fill the universe, yet God knows the name of each one! (Isaiah 40:26) So Jehovah God can remember our dead loved ones in every detail, and he is ready to restore them to life.

Rachael, Mike & Debbie- I'm sorry I was unable to attend your father's memorial service to show my respects. Events in my own life have had me preoccupied of late. However, I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you that I feel your family's loss. I think I told Mike Jr at your Mom's wake- it was only when I got older that I realized in hindsight how involved our two families were, going through school with Rachael, going through Scouts with Mike. We were all there for so much of the same experiences together. And your parents--ESPECIALLY Mr. Martin--had a tremendous impact on my life. I remember all those camping trips, and all those dinners & ceremonies, and all that school stuff. Without realizing it at the time, your Dad would become one of my role models. I have been a Scout leader now with my own son for the last 10 years. I have not only been involved with my son's Pack & Troop, but am also involved at the District and Council level now. And I know that I do this in no small part to pay the universe back for giving me that bear of a man your Dad was when I was the one who needed a Leader. I often find myself saying and doing things that your Dad & Mr. Konecheny & Mr. Way used to. And every time it happens, it brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. (Turns out I have the same kind of booming voice as an adult; and I have been known to belt out a couple of lines of Oh What A Beautiful Morning on camping trips.) So please take some comfort in knowing that we are ALL your Dad's--and Mom's--legacy: all the people whose lives intersected with theirs, and yours. That's a lot of love and respect that your folks gifted the world with. God bless.

Death is the hardest thing we have to deal with in life. I know words can do little to take away the pain you are feeling, so may the God of comfort be with your family, helping you to cope. Lean on Him in the days to follow. (2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17 and Psalms 147:3) My deepest sympathy.
