Charles Martin, having lived a long, productive and inspirational 84 years, passed peacefully early Sunday morning, June 14, 2015.
He was born in Mt. Pleasant Mills, Snyder County, Pennsylvania on July 17, 1930.
Charles was married for 64 years and is survived by his wife, Jane Yoshiko Martin. He is survived by two children, Barbara Jane Long of Mililani, Hawaii and Robert Charles Martin of Albuquerque, New Mexico, three grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Palmer Martin of Hummels Wharf, Pennsylvania and Alfred Martin of Mr. Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles proudly served his country for twenty-five years in numerous duty stations throughout the world, beginning his career in the US Army in 1947 and retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1972.
‘Papa’ has left a legacy and touched many with his loving commitment to his wife and his family - a life honorably and courageously lived. He was a quiet-spoken hero in every way and will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on July 24, 2015, Friday at 10:30 a.m. Light lunch to follow at Richard & Barbara Long’s home in Mililani, Hawaii.
