In loving memory of Willard "Mac" McConnell
3/9/1924 - 9/25/2015

Location: Issaquah, Washington

Visits: 123,139

In honoring our dad's wishes to not have a formal funeral service, we have composed the memorial site so that all of you, near and far, can be with us in sharing your thoughts, stories, and photos of how our dad was special in your life. To view a video celebrating his life, visit this link, https://youtu.be/v8QJpbBXH38. The song is sung by his granddaughter, Stephanie Galver.

Dad maintained his sense of humor and cheerful disposition throughout his life. We are grateful for the loving care he received at Aegis of Issaquah during the last four years. Much love and thanks to all of you for the support and love you have given us.

With full hearts,
Susan and Sally

We encourage remembrances to be made to the Alzheimer's Association, http://www.alz.org/.

To Susan, Steve, Scott, Kelsey, Sally and all your family, my deepest condolences. Your dad had a lot of spirit. He was always supportive of whatever you were doing - helping make "Susan for Sec" signs in the garage for the Cedar Park student body secretary race (Susan won!). And he pitched the tent for us to sleep out back and didn't even try to scare us with creepy sounds in the night. He put up with friends coming along to Ft. Stevens to camp, though I don't recall whether it was Mac for Mary who called me out when I tried to make "reungluing" a word in Scrabble. Your dad had a quick humor and loved to make his girls happy. I know you'll remember him for that always. Love, Julie

I have so many fond memories of your dad, Susan. Your house was such a fun place to spend time growing up. Your parents filled your home with a lot of joy, laughter, and good food! I remember the ever-present twinkle in your dad’s blue eyes and the way his smile lit up his face. A skilled piano player, talented artist, gifted gardener, and loving dad who was actively involved in his daughter’s lives — he was a renaissance man. Your dad would often share jokes using an assortment of accents or funny voices when you had friends over. I was also blessed to be invited on some of the McConnell family camping trips, including a memorable one to Fort Stevens. In high school, your mom and dad came to most if not all of the Sunset football games. I remember your folks driving us to football games, both near and far, and an epic road trip to Grants Pass for a game. Your dad was always at the wheel of the family station wagon: our chauffeur. At some point I started calling him “Charles” because I thought it was a fitting nickname for a chauffeur. Remembering your dad and giving thanks for his life... With love, Cherie

This memory is from JANIS LYNN (MITA) McCONNELL RICE, Niece. Your father has already been one of my favorite memories all during my life. His kindness, creativity, fantastic humor and the love he radiated was so special. AND the music! He made me feel good about myself, made me laugh and I was always proud of him and happy to claim him as my uncle. Sincerely, Janis Lynn (Mita) McConnell Rice (3/17/1945.)

This memory is from NANCY PICKETT, 2 Cousin (?), Canby, Oregon Thank you, Sally. I enjoyed reading your wonderful account of Uncle Willie’s life. I learned a few things I didn’t know. Probably my earliest memories of him are from the big house on Market Street. There was a library off the living room with sliding glass doors…and a piano. That is where I first heard Uncle Willie play his favorite boogie pieces. I loved it and always looked forward to his music. We all loved Uncle Willie’s sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye and his ready smile. He will be missed… Love, Nancy

THESE MEMORIES ARE FROM ARDEN MCCONNELL, FIRST COUSIN In my early teens, many years ago, I spent summers with Uncle Jack and Aunt Anna on Market Street in Portland. (Uncle Jack was my Grandfather’s brother.) They were very good to me, and Aunt Anna was especially happy that I was a girl in the house since they had three boys and she wanted a girl too. Willard was still at home, and often teased me in a fun way. He’s always been “Willard” to me - not Willie nor Mac. Aunt Anna called him Willard, so I didn’t know the difference, until years later. There was a strong family resemblance between Willard and my Father, Sam McConnell. Being first cousins, they looked quite alike. Willard stopped by to visit shortly after I moved back to Grants Pass. He played “boogie woogie” at the piano, and looked just like my Father playing jazz. I almost cried. Happily, we stayed in touch throughout our lives. Had a wonderful, and memorable visit with him, and like my Father, I rejoiced in Willard’s delightful humor, and quick wit. Who did they inherit that from? We laughed a lot as we shared fun, and delicious old-time memories during that precious visit. He will always live in my heart as a very sweet, devoted, and loving soul. Arden McConnell 1st Cousin Grants Pass, Oregon
