From : Randy Goff. Jack was always one who loved to give gifts to his family and his friends.i I vividly remember it was Christmas Eve of 1973 . We always opened the majority of our gifts on Christmas Eve and shortly after opening our gifts Jack went outside and came back in with an Irish setter puppy in his arms. It delighted him to give us this puppy on Christmas. The feelings of delight was short lived when the puppy relieved himself by the coffee table and Jack found himself out in the front yard gagging and puking . This little puppy was our beloved Hilary . This was only one of many acts of love that Jack displayed in his life !

While in the Air Force, Dad was stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota. We all lived in the "frozen tundra" for about 1 year near good friends, the Bobak Family. Mr. Bobak and Dad were transferred to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL around 1973 where they both retired from the Air Force.
Dad lived many years in South Tampa until he moved to Bradenton/Palmetto area near me and my family. Unfortunately, he suffered with some dementia and was in assisted living. He often thought about relocating back to North Carolina but was not able.
He took a fall during the summer of 2020 and then his health declined more rapidly. Although he had some dementia, he always recognized me and his family and was appreciative of our visits.
He passed away peacefully. Randy, Terry and I were all able to be at his bedside before his passing. It was a blessing for him to pass while Randy and his family were visiting from Michigan for Christmas. God has all things planned for a great purpose.
I am thankful I was able to see both my brothers during this time.

Dad often told a story about a brief trip immediately after graduation in 1963 where he hitch-hiked from Liberty, NC out to California with some friends. They went out to California to the Jolly Green Giant vegetable farm to work the fields. He said it was very tough work and he stayed in a dorm for field workers. While there in California, he and his friends all "peroxided" their hair blonde. I don't think he stayed too long in California. He then hitch-hiked back to North Carolina and got a ride all the way to Murphy, NC from a truck driver. He was then trying to catch a ride in Murphy back to Liberty and was very grateful to be picked up by someone he knew, his high school coach/teacher from Liberty.
