Papa's cooking! Especially his chili! Papa loved to make it spicy but also would mike a mild version for those who couldn't handle the heat. His goal was to make a bowl that was too spicy for me to handle. Sadly, this is the one thing he failed at. Probably because I am just as stubborn as he and would never admit if it was spicy.

My favorite memories of Papa are of us sitting together doing Sudoku puzzles, or something similar, in silence. We didn't need to talk. I liked how he understood my love of silence and didn't question it. He would occasionally look up and give me an ear-to-ear smile with love in his eyes. We would take turns getting up to get each other coffee and/or dessert.

I remember Papa pulling pranks on all of my cousins. He would quickly blame it on a different cousin. He would let me in on the secret and every time someone talked about it, he flashed me a knowing smile. He would then quickly go back to his puzzles like he wasn't even listening to anyone in the room.

I remember coming home from college and Papa always convincing grandma that funnel cake was a proper breakfast. His logic was that funnel cake was not that different from waffles and that I worked so hard at school that I needed funnel cake. He would then look over his shoulder and give me a victory smile. He knew grandma wouldn't approve of him making himself funnel cake but she could never say no to me. He used this ploy for all kids of treats, especially of the frozen variety.
