Dad has always been patient, loving and caring, I never really paid attention until I got older, when I look back dad was always doing something in the yard or around the house. If you wanted to be involved in what he was doing he would take the time to show you how to use the tools, shop equipment, and let you help in the project. Even though it probably took twice as long to get the job done he would take the time. I think my mechanical aptitude must have come form him, I now can maintain my own vehicle, cut a piece of wood (to the correct size), repair plumbing, fences, sprinkler systems and maintain a house although I still can't keep a garden alive. I will always appreciate the time and effort it took to be a patient teacher and father. Thank you dad for allowing me to be me and teaching me the importance of life, love, patience and to take the time to teach no matter how much time it adds to the project.

Whenever we would call Mary & Harold on the phone, just to catch up, and ask how they were doing, "Papa" Harold would enthusiastically reply that they were doing "WONDERFUL!!" He didn't go thru life like so many do -- taking everything for granted. He truly appreciated and remained cognizant of his good fortune: food on the table, family around the table, flowers blooming in the garden, etc.
He gave so much to his family and community, always putting in the time & effort to throw the best parties, prepare tasty meals for large family gatherings, and taking care of anyone who was in need. His generosity and positive spirit knew no bounds.
Favorite memory: cross-country skiing on the beach at Lake Tahoe.
I'll try to always remember this lesson: When you wake up in the morning, and everything is even mostly okay, and someone asks you how you are doing, invite a smile onto your face and reply: "Wonderful!!!"

I have been told what a great father I am but I have to give credit to my dad Harold. He has taught me so much about living, about loving, about servanthood, about stewardship but most of all just about how to suck it up and get on with it. I watched him, across the last weeks of his life, face every challenge just like he faced life... OK, let's go! Even at the end as he lay semi-comatose he would try to pull himself over when we had to rotate him. Amazing man, amazing will!
He taught me that you can't start anywhere different than where you are. You can hope for better, but expect the worst and you will never be disappointed. Fatalism... sure... but planted gardens every step of the way. This is a great man with a great heart and his presence will not soon depart from my being; he is a part of everything I do. I love you dad and I hope I can always find my OK!
