A quiet, thoughtful man who drew great joy from his family, pets, books, and music; he had an unbounded spiritual and intellectual curiosity and delighted in rooting for the underdog.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and playfulness to those who knew him well.
He was described professionally as possessing "modesty devoid of timidity and solemnity without ostentation."
"I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now-and-then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, while the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me." ISAAC NEWTON
"There is a second boy playing with that first boy on the beach but saying to him at a certain point, "This has been fun, but it's getting dark, the tide is coming in, supper may be almost ready, and I'm going home. If you come along, I promise to tell you a story on the way." JACK MILES, Religion as We Know It.
Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting: the soul that rises with us, our life's star, hath had elsewhere its setting, and cometh from afar; not in entire forgetfulness, and not in utter nakedness, but trailing clouds of glory do we come from God,who is our home: WILLIAM WORDSWORTH
"The quality of mercy is not strained it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath: it is twice-blessed; it blesseth him that gives and him that takes;" WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, Merchant of Venice
