John, what to say.
It's been a while since you have been able to walk on America soil, even long since you have I'm a time of peace. I have a feeling that you would be disappointed in what the country you have fought so hard to free has become.
You have so few people who will remember you for what you truly are, and it is sad, you fought and died fir this country. You fought for what you thought this country could become and ultimately they forgot you. It kills me that this is what has happened, we are blinded to the true hero's of the American revolution in our history class, we are blinded to you and your story.
I am saddened by the way history has treated you, i am saddened even more by hiw i have treated you.
You are a brave souk soul John, may you rest now child.

Dearest John,
You have been dead for 235 years today, but the unfairness of your short life hasn't gotten any easier to bear. I wish you'd had the chance to fullfill your dreams (I am absolutely certain you would, if you'd been allowed more time on this Earth), and I'm sorry you have to watch the country and ideals you bled for fall apart so badly. You are my hero.
From Portugal with so, so much love,
Rafaela
