Lt Col Ronald B. Neutzling

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, San Antonio, TX, with Rev. James M. Kotara, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow at 1:15 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Ronald Breen “Ron” Neutzling, Lt. Colonel, U.S. Air Force, passed away on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, TX of an acute pulmonary condition.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Neutzling DiMario; his parents Ralph Neutzling and Mary Breen Neutzling.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn K. Neutzling, with whom he shared 53 years, of San Antonio, TX; his mother-in-law Joyce Wester of San Antonio, TX; his daughter, Laura Neutzling of Sarasota, FL and son-in-law, Daniel Eby; his son Daniel Neutzling and daughter-in-law Alecia Neutzling of San Antonio, TX; grandson Gregory DiMario, of Arnold, MD; grandsons Matthew Neutzling, Austin Neutzling and Zachary Neutzling of San Antonio, TX; brother John Neutzling and sister-in-law Christianne Neutzling; niece Erin Neutzling Scott, and her mother Elizabeth Neutzling Sirianni.

He was born on December 5, 1938 in Watertown, South Dakota. A graduate of Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, Ron was the Commander of the Chaminade Guard, Central Catholic’s Precision Drill Team. Additionally, he was the Commander of the Corps of Cadets in the Junior ROTC program at Central.

He received a B.S. in Engineering from U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York, NY, where he also participated in extracurricular activities, including the Debate Club, Camera Club and Fencing Club. He went on to get a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Dayton, OH.

After a successful 20-year Air Force career with many commendations, Ron retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1981 from Kelly, AFB and settled in his beloved city of San Antonio, TX. His post Air Force career started by earning yet another degree in Computer Science at The University of Texas in San Antonio, TX, where he made the Dean’s List for academic excellence. He went on to become a programmer and was hired by Flexware Systems in San Antonio, TX where he worked until the time of his passing.

During his life, Ron was an avid photographer and developed black and white portraits in his home darkroom before the dawn of the digital era. He enjoyed professional sports and was very involved with his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an auto enthusiast who enjoyed a variety of eclectic cars, including a Karmann-Ghia and a 1965 Corvette convertible. A faithful Catholic, he attended mass regularly all his life.
