This memorial was created in honor of Roger Dale Johnson of Port Orchard, Washington. Roger was born on November 10, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan and passed on March 7, 2018. Roger joined the US Navy at 21. He spent 27 years in the Navy serving as a medic to the Marines and ending his naval career as a Hospital Corp Senior Chief, earning three Purple Hearts, two Navy Commendation Medals as well as many other awards and medals. He also spent 16 years working as a supervisor in Central Supply at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.

Roger is survived by his wife Patsy, of 28 years, son Harvey (Donna) Walls, daughter Roxana (Scott) Browning, son Zachary Johnson, 5 sisters, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and son, Johnny Walls.

He attended Christian Life Center for over 20 years where he served in the Care Kitchen.

Roger was a devoted husband, generous father, and took great pride in his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards with friends each Wednesday at Givens Center. He had a funny sense of humor and loved to make people laugh which will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Military Service: In 1961 Roger joined the US Navy. In 1962 he attended Hospital Corp School in California before being stationed at the Naval Air Station in Guam where he served as a medic and flew search and rescue. In 1964 he went to the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois where he completed x-ray school and trained to be a field medic. In 1966 he went to Viet Nam with the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3D MARDIV and bravely served as a medic to the Marines. In 1967 he went to supply school in Athens, Georgia. IN 1969 he returned to Guam as an x-ray tech. In 1971 he was back at the naval hospital in Illinois. In 1976 he was with the 1st Marine Brigade, Fleet Marine Force Pacific in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. In 1980 he went to the Navy Marine Core Reserve Center in Spokane, Washington. In 1983 he was with the 3rd Force Supply Group, FMF Pacific in Okinawa. In 1987 he completed Naval Amphibious School in California. In 1988 he was with the LPH-3, USS Okinawa, Pacific Fleet around the world tour. In 1988 he was at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. After nearly 28 years courageously, faithfully, and honorably serving our country he ended his naval career as a Hospital Corp Senior Chief.
