This memorial was created in honor of Albrecht "Honest Al" Frank Hering of Plantation, Florida. Albrecht was born on November 14, 1938 in Jamaica, New York and passed on February 10, 2016. Albrecht was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all friends and family.

Albrecht was full of love and kindness for his family and friends around the world and wished good fortune and health for you all. His optimism and zest for life showed in all he did. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ana Victoria, three daughters, Kimberly Anne Filby, Ana-Klara Hering Anderson, and Alejandra Hering Brutton, their husbands, Steve, Steve and Brandon, and 5 granddaughters, Kelley , Brooke, Julia, Sofia, and Skylar, and a grandson, Erik Albrecht, on the way, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Al had a life filled with adventure, service, experience and education. He lived in 14 countries and traveled to 48, spoke five languages and was learning another, played guitar, harmonica, piano and accordion, and loved sailing "Opa's Girl" and riding his many bikes. He was an avid hiker and skier, having traversed slopes around the world. He earned his undergraduate degree from Hofstra University and his Masters from the New School. He was a very proud veteran of the Army and served as an officer in the Airborne Rangers. He had successful careers as a social economist, serving under-developed communities on three continents, as a commodities broker, where many clients became friends, and in the security industry, where he was known as a compassionate manager who cared about the well-being and development of the company's employees. The security company for which he worked has created an annual award in his honor to be presented to an employee who exemplifies the values and work ethic for which Albrecht stood.

He valued good health and time with his family. He always found ways to reinvent himself, discover something new and make a friend out of all he met. His gift truly was making positive, lasting relationships with people. He served as a Big Brother and was very proud of his Little Brother and their friendship and mentorship. He was an eternal optimist.

We are so very proud of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He lived an extraordinary life, but at his heart was a gentle, kind and selfless person.

We ask that you say a prayer, make a toast with his favorite beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and think of a fond memory of Big Al and share it here.

He is sailing now. Fair winds and following seas, our dearest Albie, Dad, Pops, Opa, Brother, Unc, Big Al, Honest Al, Easy Al and Friend.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 12th at 10 am at the Plantation United Methodist Church.

Donations in Albrecht's name may be made to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital at https://jdchfoundation.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=566.

We love you, Al. You live on forever in our smiles, our laughter, and our joy.
