Current Memories

From: Elizabeth Larson Monday, October 23, 2017
When I was young, about 7 or 8 (my mom would have the correct age, hi mom!) Grammy would watch me over the summers. Monday through Friday I spent with this beautiful soul watching The Price Is Right or some of the VHS tapes she had for the daycare business she used to run. My day would start off way too early, and I would fall asleep on her white couches in the living room. She would always wake me up at 7:00 or 7:30 and if I didn't get up and fell back asleep she'd wake me up and tell me that only lazy people slept that late. I didn't like it back then but now I think about it and I laugh. Some of my favorite memories with Grammy were when we would find crafts or something for us to do together. I helped her bake cookies a few times, her cookies are legendary! One time, I remember this perfectly, we had to go to Rainbow for groceries and she put me in the backseat and on the way ran a stop sign. She was startled, but then I saw her eyes in the rear view window looking at me with a smile. She laughed and said "Now you'll have to remember that the stop signs are only suggestions!" There are plenty of memories I have of us together those summers.. Somewhere along the way though I grew up, only came for holidays and a few mondays for coffee.. I should have visited more often.. One time I came to her home with blue hair and she called me "a pretty hippie" which I loved. When Grammy met my husband she had a big warm smile and called him "Long, tall, and handsome" we laughed and she laughed. I couldn't wish more that my Grammy had more time to get to know my husband. She would have loved him. I could ramble on and on about all of the memories I have about Grammy.. But in conclusion, there was nobody as genuine, loving, godly, beautiful, or sassy as my Grammy. I'll miss her. See you again Grammy. -The Pretty Hippie
