So sad to hear about Hilda's recent passing. It's been many years since we've talked. I just uploaded two old photos back from the 90's (one on the lake -- oh how she loved boating and waterskiing, and one with Dianne and myself when we were involved with Lifestyles).
Hilda was the world's best aunt and was quite the Country Western dancer. She was a kind, gentle soul whose life made a difference to many, myself included. Her smile and spirit was contagious. She had a significant impact on my life's journey and I was blessed to be a part of her life.
Hilda and Dianne introduced me to Mile Hi Church in Lakewood many years ago and for that, I will be forever grateful. In the infamous words of Whitney Houston, I will always love you. Rest in peace and we'll meet again one day on the other side.
As I light a candle this evening for the light of her eternal spirit, my thoughts and prayers are with Shawn and the Sanchez family. May you be comforted by the memories and love you shared.
Namaste,
Janice

The Saturday before Hilda went for her procedure, we had gone up to Black Hawk to eat at the nice restaurant and to spend the night. We had 6 o'clock reservations to eat. We were standing in line waiting to be seated, when Hilda started talking to the gal behind us. As soon as Hilda found out the gal was eating alone she invited her to eat with us. The gal was so happy. The kindness of Hilda's heart. Shawn Zillmann

Hilda is the most welcoming and generous spirit. My two favorite memories capture that quality perfectly. When I started dating Roman, her nephew, it took a few years to settle into the holiday routine- there's always that awkward period of time where people wonder if you'll be around and so Christmas was one of those times where the family got used to me being there. Maybe our third Christmas together, Hilda handed out envelopes to all the nieces and nephews- I was shocked to get one too. My family was struggling financially- they had 2 kids in school; my tuition was extra pricey being out of state. When I opened the envelope and found a $100 bill inside, I immediately cried- completely overwhelmed by the generosity and inclusion and just pure grateful to have a much needed gift. Hilda's welcoming heart extended far beyond that one Christmas, with hugs and phone calls to check in- constant thoughtfulness. When Roman and I found out we were expecting our first, Hilda was determined to pick a special gift. She got us the pack'n'play that each of our babies has spent their first year sleeping in! Short of diapers, this the most well used baby item in our house!! It is a joy to know that we will soon put our third baby in there each night, a close and constant reminder of Hilda. She always wanted to hold the kids, to show them they were loved and acknowledged. She began that with her first generation of nieces and nephews, and never stopped as the next generation came along. The very last time we saw Hilda was Sunday before her surgery. She had made us a meal, and I thank God we took the time to pick it up and thank her. As our kids shouted bye from the backseat and Roman hugged her in the driveway, I never imagined that being a final moment... But I am so glad my memory of her is paused with her just as she was- nurturing, loving and generous.
