It may not be a poem or riddle as good as Gilbert would have written, but here are my rambling thoughts.
If he saw an issue, he would mull it over and put a spin on things, just to get you thinking. If there was a problem, he wanted to talk it over. He had articles printed in the Star Ledger many times.
He was so proud to be an East Orange, mailman. He took on projects, just to make it a better place to work. His mail got delivered no matter what.
I remember one Christmas, he was a secret Santa and bought a little girl a bike. He had gone on vacation, and the bike was not delivered. He took the bike to the little girl’s house and told her he was Santa’s helper. She told her Mom. I just knew Santa didn’t forget me.
If you wanted to see something, he would take you on a trip you would never forget. He was thrilled when Daniel and Lisa, came to visit and they went to NYC. It was a glorious day.
Gilly, so enjoyed his paper mill and nyc shows as one of the 3 muskerteers, with Diane and Dave.
Eileen - He was so proud to volunteer at the Historic Jersey City Cemetery.
Many years ago. Gilbert drove to Alabama to get our little sister, Eileen, cause she wanted to come home.
Gilbert traveled all over. He would get in his truck and off he would go. A good vacation was when he would travel as far as he could one way and come back another, just so he could see something.
He went with me to North Carolina, for a weekend, so I could be with my friend Ernie and Bob celebrating their marriage.
Our 3 girls. Mora, Meow Meow and Smartie are still looking for their buddy. Gilbert would sit at night and they would all wait their turn to sit in his lap and get his attention.
When I asked Gilbert to help me, he was never too busy. These last few days, I had at least 10 thinks, I was going to ask him about.
When he was leaving for Florida, he kissed my cheek, like he has done so many times. And we said to each other, see you later. Cause we don’t do goodbyes.

So see you later Gilbert, say hi to Mom and Dad . And don’t forget to save me a seat.

Have you lost a loved one?
