My Aunt Dilla. Dear Carrie and family, I’ve been thinking about your Mom so much lately. I just wanted you to know how special she was to me. I love that photo you had of her when she was younger. She always looked so glamorous to me! I thought it was perfect for her when she worked at Montgomery Ward. She could buy all those “fancy” clothes and get an employee discount! She always looked so put together. I’m not sure where her accent came from. She grew up in PA and no one else I knew from PA had that voice. I think I compared that to more of a Southern Belle and thought it very appropriate that such a lovely lady would have that voice. Your Mom and my Mom took me to my first ever movie in a real movie theater. It was in Johnstown and we saw The Sound of Music. It was in the movie theater on Main Street. I think it was the Rialto, but that might have been the skating rink! Lol! It was so great for so many reasons – kind of a girls day (not sure if you or Becky were with us), it was my first movie and it was Music! And lots of it. To this day I could watch the Sound of Music over and over and over. I was in a traveling choir group for awhile. One of our trips was to Canada. We took a bus and we stopped at Burlington, VT. I went to the place where the real Von Trapp family opened a lodge. It was wonderful, but it wasn’t Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer! After my Dad passed away, my Mom told me she figured all the trips the four of them used to take would come to an end. I told her that would absolutely not happen! And it didn’t. Your Mom and Dad were the best! They looked after her and included her every time they went to visit Aunt Doris or Aunt Jeanne or anyone. I will never forget that. I felt like I was so far away from her but your parents stepped in for what I couldn’t do. Your dad kind of took over as my dad. And I called him sometimes when I needed a dad. He always listened. Anyway, now I’m making myself cry. We had such a wonderful childhood and we spent so much time together. Your family has always been a big part of my life and I hope we can keep that going. Love to all, Karen
