I worked for Fred for 10 years at Litton, he was a something of a task master but always fair. I struggled at first but eventually realised it was all good. I learnt a lot and I shall always be thankful for Fred.

I had the honor of meeting and getting to know Fred when Steve and I started dating in our teens. I was later doubly blessed when he became my father-in-law. Both he and Shirley welcomed me with open arms into their family. I have always felt loved, accepted, and cared for. Since my own father lived far, Fred was truly a constant father presence in my life. Fred always had a strong sense of integrity and moral principle. He worked very hard, loved his family dearly, faithfully served at his church, and was involved in the community. What always struck me about Fred was he NEVER spoke a harsh word about anyone-ever. He didn’t waste time on negative thoughts or words. He quietly excelled in all he did, and always did the “right thing” never bragging or boastful. We would often hear about Fred’s accomplishments from others, as he would just humbly smile. The other thing that stands out to me about Fred was his intelligence. He worked in a high tech environment and had a myriad of interests ranging from trains to fishing. Fred was not only smart, because he knew and remembered things, he was wise because he truly understood what was important in life. In the role of grandfather was yet another area where he excelled. Christopher and Samantha never doubted for one second that they were loved and cherished by their “Papa”. The usually dignified Fred was quick to get on the floor to help “engineer” Legos with Chris and would even have pretend tea parties with Samantha. Both he and Shirley have been a loving and supporting presence at every family milestone and celebration, always cheering us on with knowing, proud smiles. Fred will always be a hero to us. He has shown through his loving example what it means to live a life of honor, to walk in faith, and to show generosity beyond measure. I know that he is watching over us now as we try to live our lives in a way that will make him look on and give that proud, knowing smile.
